"A picture is worth a thousand words - Every picture tells a story"
A good photograph means different things to different people.
It can evoke fond memories.
It can describe a beautiful scene.
It can record amazing detail.
It can trigger great debate, sadness & happiness.
It can capture moments in time & preserve them in a way
that movies can't since the critical second is lost in the movement of the frame.
I've been interested in Photography for as long as I can remember & bit the bullet in 1979 with the purchase of my first SLR, a delightful, mechanical, manual Pentax K1000.
I learnt very quickly to minimise the cost & use of expensive 35mm film. (we paid 35% VAT in those days!)
Every click of the shutter had to get it right - Focus, Exposure, Composition.
The luxury of editing at home in a darkroom just wasn't an option available to many in the days of celluloid.
The Digital Age - I was a latecomer to this wonderful & emancipating technology.
Now everyone has the potential to create stunning images & capture those crucial memories.
Shoot as much as your memory card will allow, autofocus, auto-exposure. No more need for frayed photo albums or darkened rooms for slide shows - just stick a memory card into the TV or via WI- Fi from the PC to view large size. Social networks bring the possibility to share one's work with a worldwide audience making photography a more social pastime.
My interest has always been in landscape photography, which up makes most of my portfolio here. Many times I annoyed & irritated my friends by refusing to move on while I waited for the light to change & I think my patience was often rewarded.
Photoshop - the darkroom in your PC - has made it possible to "correct" any errors made at the time of capture & also allows some creative input at the time of image processing - I don't subscribe to the point of view that Photoshop is "cheating".
I hope you like the images on view here & share this site amongst your friends.
